The Koleos, which rivals the Nissan X-Trail, goes on sale in Europe this summer

The Renault Koleos will go on sale this summer in the UK, priced from £27,500, a significant premium over rival, the Nissan X-Trail, which starts from £22,855.

The top-of-the-range model costs £34,200.

There are a choice of two engines, both diesels. The most frugal and cheapest Koleos is the dCi 130, a 1.6-litre with six-speed manual transmission and two-wheel drive, which gives fuel economy of 57.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 128g/km.

There’s also a 2.0-litre dCi 175 in six-speed manual or seven- speed X-Tronic transmission, in four wheel drive. As the most powerful diesel in the line-up, it develops 280lb ft of torque at 2,000rpm. In auto X-tronic specification, it can reach 0-62mph in 9.5sec.

Unlike the Mégane, Renault won’t offer a hybrid model Koleos further down the line.

The Koleos is built on the CMF C/D platform, which is shared with the Nissan X-Trail, as well as larger Renault-Nissan models, including Renault’s Espace, Talisman, Kadjar, and the Nissan Qashqai.

Renault claims excellent rear passenger knee room at 289mm. Boot space is 458 litres compared to the X-Trail’s 550 litres. Overall, the model is 4672mm long with a wheelbase of 2705mm.

Four-wheel-drive versions allow you to select three driving modes, Auto, Lock or 2WD and offers ground clearance of 210mm, the same as the Nissan X-Trail.

With a kerb weight of 1650kg, the Koleos has a towing capabiltiy of 2000kg, according to Renault.

There are two trim levels, Dynamique S Nav and Signature Nav. The entry-level Dynamique S Nav includes dual-zone climate control, four USB ports, DAB radio, sat nav and Apple Carplay, as well as Bluetooth and a seven-inch touchscreem. Outside, the Koleos gets 18-inch alloys and heated, folding door mirrors as wel las roof bars.

Signature Nav adds 19-inch alloys, full LED headlights as well as heatedfront seats and a larger 8.7-inch touchscreen. It also features an automatic boot opening system.

A wide range of driver aids are available across the line-up, including AEB, lane departure, traffic sign recognition, blind spot and safe distance warnings, tiredness detection, and easy park assist.

Options include hands-free parking (£350), Bose sound system (£600) and brown or grey leather (£400).

The new Koleos will be built in the existing Koleos plant in Busan, South Korea, for all markets except China. Chinese-market Koleos models will be built in Renault’s Wuhan plant in China.
