Track-focused variant shaves more than six-tenths from Gumpert Apollo Speed’s Green Hell laptime, with video
The Mercedes-AMG GT R is now officially the fastest rear-wheel drive production car to have lapped the Nürburgring, clocking a 7min 10.92sec lap that beats the previous record by more than six-tenths.
The track-focused version of AMG’s sports coupé wore a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres – standard fitment on the model – and was driven by Christian Gebhardt of Germany’s Sport Auto magazine. A video of his lap is shown below.
