Sighting of an XE with a 5.0-litre V8 sparks suggestions that a new series model is on the way
The marque has recently launched the SV Project 8 with the same unit, but that hand-built XE is limited in production, meaning there is currently no V8-engined series model.
An inside source told Autocar that Jaguar will not produce an XE SVR model, despite rumours that it will. This is supported by previous trends in other model ranges, such as the F-Type and XJ, where an R model has come before any potential SVR.
Insurance database information does not reveal what specification the V8 engine featured in the test car is running in. It produces 592bhp in the limited-run SV Project 8, but expect it to offer about 567bhp in a production XE R, as it does in the F-Type SVR and new XJR models.
Autocar contacted Jaguar for comment on the prospect of an XE R, but a spokesman responded with the brand’s official line, “We do not discuss our future product plans”, leaving the door open but with no more certainty.
