Jaguar Land Rover Classic expands into North America

The preservation and restoration division of the two British brands will open a new facility in Georgia in summer 2019

Jaguar Land Rover’s Classic division is to open a new site in North America, its first outside of Europe.

The centre in Savannah, Georgia, will have 42 bays for working on customers’ cars, and 75 technicians will work at the centre when it opens next summer.

As at the division’s European centres in Coventry and Essen-Kettwig, Germany, restorations and refurbishments will take place at the 75,000-square-foot site. There will also be a sales showroom and servicing facility.

Cars which have been out of production for more than ten years are eligible for JLR Classic overhaul, meaning the X350-generation XJ, X100-generation XK and S-Type are the newest cars which can be worked upon. The X-Type and X358-generation XJ will be eligible next year.

The division’s first site in Coventry, JLR’s spiritual home, was opened in June 2017 and the German operation opened in May.

JLR Classic’s activities include high-profile projects such as continuations of the E-Type and D-Type, as well as restoration of classic Range Rovers, Series 1 Land Rovers and the restoration of a prototype Series 1 – one of the first Land Rovers made after the company was founded in 1948.
