Hybrid Kinetic Group H500: new electric saloon to rival BMW 3 Series GT

Pininfarina penned this new hybrid model, which is set to sit below the H600 and use micro-turbine technology

Hybrid Kinetic Group will reveal another Pininfarina-designed electric model later this month that uses micro-turbine range-extender technology.

Due at the Beijing motor show on 25 April, the H500 saloon is a smaller sibling to the recently revealed H600. It shares its powertrain technology with that car, as well as Hybrid Kinetic’s HK GT coupé and K550 and K750 SUVs.

Although details for the H500 have yet to be revealed, the cars it shares its technology with offer up to 621 miles of range and use battery packs with 50,000-charge-cycle lifespans.

A preview image shows that the H500 will have four doors and a rear roofline that extends further back than on regular saloons, giving it the sort of silhouette we’ve come to expect from models prioritising rear head room, such as the similarly sized BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo.

Opting for this bodyshape mirrors design trends in China, where demand for cars with generous rear room is higher than in most other countries. This is evident with the number of long-wheelbase versions of cars, such as the Jaguar XEL and XFL, on sale there.

An image of the H500’s interior shows that it features a wrap-around dash screen with a digital instrument cluster and another screen in the lower centre console.

Pininfarina, the Italian design house soon to launch its own car company with an exotic electric hypercar to rival the Bugatti Chiron, has penned all of Hybrid Kinetic’s models as part of a partnership worth £55 million.

There’s no word as to when the first production H500 will hit the market, but other models in Hybrid Kinetic’s range are due on roads later this year, suggesting the same could be true for the latest car.
